Apartment 01 is a study of inserting a single architectural element into the residential home to behave as a spine that connect spaces, replace storage and contain daily functions.

The concept of the project revolves about a single full height feature cabinet dressed in dark timber veneer, located at the centre of the apartment. It functions as a new storage space, replacing the removal of the existing storeroom, whilst concealing the air-conditioning unit behind removable timber screens. The feature cabinet also acts as a physical threshold between serve (kitchen) and served (dining) spaces. A concealed door opens into a private guest room from the living room.
